Innsbruck – Things To Do In Between Euro2008 Matches

Innsbruck is one of the cities hosting the Euro2008 Football cup in June next year. For people traveling to see their favorite teams battle it out on the grass, there will be many days between matches. Although it is almost customary to drink beer and cheer for your team between matches as well, getting out of your hotel for a little sightseeing can be a nice contrast to the loud crowds of football supporters.
The old town of Innsbruck
Innsbruck, and its old parts, is known for the varied architecture with Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo buildings elegantly located next to each other. As the old town is for pedestrians only, it makes for a nice and quiet walk – looking at the amazing buildings.

The former Ski jump, erected in 1925, hosted the Olympic Ski Jumping competitions in 1964 and 1976 and was rebuilt in 2001-2002, and the result is an amazing sight. Standing 47 meters tall on a hill leaves you with stunning views and scenery.
The Imperial Church of Innsbruck
Housing the memorial of Emperor Maximilian I, the Imperial Church of Innsbruck is one of the most visited tombs in Europe. It is also famous for its organ, considered one of the five most impressive organs in the world.
Innsbruck also offers many museums of various natures, with something for every taste. Perhaps one of the largest collections of skulls and bones might be of interest, then a trip to the Anatomical Sciences Museum Innsbruck, is the way to go. Or, if you would like to have your ears ringing for an eternity, visit the Bell Museum and ring, ring, ring away.
The 1000 square meters large painting of the famous Battle of Bergisel in 1809 is a stunning sight, painted by Michael Zeno Diemer. For art buffs, this is a great place to visit. If you are lucky, your hotel room will give you a view of this wonderful piece of art.
