The No 'Poo Experiment
<div>Hi Ladies - <br/> <br/>I was wondering if there are any 'no poos' out there in dancey-land. <br/> <br/>What's no 'poo? It's not using shampoo to wash your hair anymore. Instead you switch to using diluted sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and diluted apple cider vinegar (ACV). ( There is a process to it.) You can read more about why you'd do such a thing and how to do it here: http://babyslime.livejournal.com/174054.html <br/> <br/>Anyway, I just started my no 'poo experiment today and I was wondering if any of you had tried it before.</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 4 replies </div>
washing makeup brushes
<div>I just inherited a bunch of makeup brushes from my mom. Is there a way I can wash them? She wasn't very careful and there is a lot of loose powder and "whatever else was in the drawer" on them. Suggestions?</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>
Weekly Featured Photo (4)
<div>Due to the third thread reaching over 50 posts, I have started a new one for the weekly photo. To recap: each Monday morning I go through the photo archives in reverse order and select an inspiring photo for our cover girl spot for the week. Right now (September, 2008) I am in November of 2007 in the archives. So many wonderful photos in there!! This thread is so that you can go directly to the featured photo and leave a comment, as tribe will not automatically click you through when you select the main photo. And it can take some time to search for it. Please leave comments about the photo there in the photo section, as tribe sends a copy of the comment to the person who posted the photo. Chat is still fine on this thread too, we just want everyone to know when they get their well deserved kudos! <br/> <br/>And without further adieu, this week's featured photo is of Qamar: <br/>http://dancemakeup.tribe.net/photos/b6bb98d6-745f-460e-bfea-32685bc0535e</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 29 replies </div>
I need makeup advice - foundations and powders for performance.
<div>Greetings, makeup brain trust; <br/> <br/>I am going to give a friend a hand with her makeup one of these days (she's a lead singer in a death metal band and will be having her first "real big" performance in the weekend) and I am looking to find very light and/or white foundations and powders for performance. <br/>The labels I use for my normal BD performances do not carry shades as pale as I need (I'm sure you're familiar with this problem.) <br/> <br/>Of course, it has to be very durable. <br/>It has to be able to "hold on" even if there's a lot of sweating going on. <br/>And especially in my case, it has to give a lot of concealment, since I turn red as a boiled lobster whenever I get the least bit hot and sweaty. <br/>I have actually been considering genuine theatre makeup for myself because I really sweat a lot and turn so brightly red. <br/>Yeah, I know it's a lot of info, but in this case it IS highly relevant. <br/> <br/>Which labels do you prefer and why? <br/> <br/>Do you use both powders and foundations or both? <br/> <br/>Hope to hear from you highly experienced performers and make up savvy ladies out there. </div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 11 replies </div>
Transporting Makeup Brushes
<div>Hi there everyone! <br/>I was wondering what other people do to safely transport their makeup brushes. I'm replacing my medium-quality brushes with very high quality brushes and I don't want to mess them up when I travel to a gig! I kept my old brushes in a zip-up bag, and it protected them pretty well, considering. They already had askew bristles and stuff so I wasn't to worried. But these new ones are perfect, and they don't shed when you wash them . . . they're fantastic and I want to keep them that way! By the way, I highly recommend them, they're by The Body Shop. They are sooo soft, and like I said they don't shed. They spread the makeup quickly and smoothly, and it looks fantastic. Plus, as far as high-end brushes go they are relatively inexpensive. <br/> <br/>Thanks for sharing! <br/> <br/>Nefabit</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 15 replies </div>

False Eyelashes
<div>Hi there! <br/>I have a really amazing pair of eyelashes. They're curled really far up and out on the outside corner and they just make such dramatic eyes! However, they have massive amounts of glitter at the lash line, and I'd like a pair without the glitter. I've tried removing the glitter, but no luck. They're made very well. So does anyone know of a lash that would have this same shape, but without the glitter? <br/>Here's a picture, you have to scroll down. It's lash number EL 142 <br/>http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/Main_Pages/Profile_EL.htm <br/>Thanks for your help! <br/> <br/>Nefabit</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 6 replies </div>
How to make bindis?
<div>Hi Everyone - <br/>I'm interested in learning how to make bindis for bellydance. Anyone know how? Lovely Lashes
<div>I'm one of the unfortunates who harbors very few lashes, all of which are not very long at all. The volumizing mascaras and such work to a certain extent, but those pretty much just give me "normal" looking lashes. <br/> <br/>So I've decided to look into fake lashes. Only I've never actually seen any, much less bought some, much less applied them. Please ladies, tell me all you know about fake lashes! <br/> <br/>Thanks!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 16 replies </div>

Feather Lashes
<div>Ok....this may be a really stupid question but I'll ask anyway. I want to wear some feather lashes to do a peacock look. My idea was to wear them on the top lashline, and I found some really cool ones on this website: http://www.wickedtemptations.com/tr-fblkj1.html <br/>but they show on the box them being worn on the bottom lashes. So.....which is it top or bottom?? Or does it matter? <br/>Thanks! :)</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 18 replies </div>

eye kandy, you gotta luv it!
<div>ok i have the worst time trying to get makeup on that looks star quality, i usually do the basics when it comes to eyes, you know a color on the lid, darker color in the crease and highlight the brow, throw a pinch of gold on the inner and outer corners, mascara and line with kohl....well not any more. <br/>I tried some eye kandy (see previous thread eye glitter that stays put) and it works! I use mac but their adhesive has nothing on what comes with the eye kandy and the colors of the eye kandy are to die for. I used some last night for a hafla/holloween party, first of all it went on really really easy and, it stayed, all night. I got soooo many compliments. <br/>I like it so much i chose another color today to wear to work, it just makes your eyes pop! <br/>Oh and by the way, one time i accidently got some of the mac adhesive in my eye, it burned so much even after i flushed the eye i didn't know if i would perform or not, last night i did it again (i'm just a clutz when it comes to eye lining) and it stung for just a moment and then i was fine. <br/>Anyway, i wanted to thank dom for getting it to me, the great detailed instructions and suggestions that come with your purchase and basiclly let you all know it's fantastic. unfortunatly i don't think my husband took any closeups to show you but i'll take one tonight of the makeup i put on for work so you can see what i mean about the beautiful color and its staying power! this stuff is fantastic!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 55 replies </div>
Securing an Indian veil?
<div>I'm doing an Indian fusion piece on Saturday, but am having trouble keeping my veil on my head. The choreography involves a lot of fast spins and my veil has a lot of zardosi work all around the borders so it's pretty heavy. <br/> <br/>While practicing I can feel it pulling dangerously during spins, and I don't want the veil to rip off my head while I dance! Is there a trick I'm missing? My hair is pretty smooth and slippery, and I'm thinking of putting it in two braids for the performance.</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 9 replies </div>

False Lashes
<div>I bow to you, Divas of False Lashes? <br/> <br/>Today was my first time trying. It took longer than expected to get them on. And they were weird but fine for a while. Then I looked in the mirror? The inside corners of BOTH eyes is pure red. And as the day has worn on, they're getting drier and scratchier. My eyes, not the lashes. <br/> <br/>So what are the secrets? There's got to be secrets. There's always secrets. <br/> <br/>Do you use the stuff that came with them, or is there better stuff? What about gals with dry eyes naturally? Is there a time limit to keep in mind? <br/> <br/>(I have been wearing them since about 6:30 this morning, which was several hours ago.)</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>

Fang Issues
<div>So I got a pair of fangs for Halloween (I'm being a water demon) and other random gothy occassions... <br/> <br/>I'm having issues. Grrr. <br/> <br/>They're the sort that you mix the base and catalyst together and then stick in the fang then stick the fang to your teeth and they're "supposed" to make a mold that will suction your tooth to the fang... <br/> <br/>My issue is this. <br/> <br/>My right cainine tooth is sort of rounded and smooth, and I seem to be having an issue with getting the tooth deep enough into the mold to actually make a suction. I've had this issue before with fangs, and I was hoping age paired with makeup experience would have fixed the problem. It didnt. <br/> <br/>Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this thing to stick?</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 9 replies </div>

Do fingernails count?
<div>I hope I can post this question here with make up and such! <br/>I'm a newbie to fingernails because I have chewed them since I was a wee one. Now at 44 (today is my B-day!) I decided I am tired of having jacked up paws and want the elegant nails I see so many women wearing. I prefer them short-short as I don't want to lose an eye. <br/>;-P <br/>I have been wearing a set off and on these past two weeks that I like. They are very short and flexable from KISS. I do worry about fungus, so I clean very well with anti-kootie stuff. The nails are growing nicely underneath and I want to get so I have only my own nails. But these are so thin and weak I fear I will snag and rip or peel (instead of bite) them. What can I use to make them strong and hard? My mother many years ago had something UNDER the tips of her nails that looked almost wedge-like supporting her nail. Ideas on what the heck that was? Thanks ladies!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 23 replies </div>
Rachel Brice Hair falls?
<div>Rachel Brice looks like she has two fake hair ponytails that she uses sometimes... look at the youtube vid to see what I mean. Any idea where I could get some cheap ones? Reeeeeeally long hair
<div>I'm going for a Rachel Brice type look but I can't see anywhere what people do with their real hair. My biggest problem is that it's really long (past my waist) and thick/fluffy. Do you just gather it up into a big messy bun and stick things in it? Fine Hair Help - Hair Falls?
<div>I'm kind of in a quandry... my hair is super fine, and when I attempt to pull off any sort of funkified tribal sort of do, it's turning out pretty anemic. Ideally, I'd like to be wearing most of the top pulled up into a topknot bun (to which I will add hair sticks, etc.), with the rest down. <br/> <br/>I feel like I should be able to add some extra hair (most likely matching, as mine is BLACK and the costume I'm wearing is also black and silver), so that when I wrap it, my bun will end up significantly bigger. However, the semantics of making this happen are eluding me. <br/> <br/>I've found alot of tutorials for yarn falls, but those I've made and haven't had a problem with. I'm mainly looking for something with fake, relatively natural looking hair. <br/> <br/>Tips or tricks, anyone?</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 12 replies </div>

Short hair
<div>A friend has asked me to make her some bits and pieces for her hair but she has very short hair (about 1" - 2" long) so I'm not really sure what to do. I've seen a lot of people with shorter hair wearing things attached to hair bands but I don't know which type of band to use. Do you attach your falls to the end so they hang at the sides or in the middle so it falls to the back? She may get away with small clips but the style of falls and things that she wants are really heavy and I don't think clips would hold them in. Her children bought her a beaded cap for the last hafla we performed at and she did say I could try and attach stuff to that but I'm wary of damaging it. Makeup Tips from me to you :)
<div>I get asked a lot of questions, not only about my products but on applying products. Every week, I'll share a new tip! <br/> <br/>Makeup Tip No. 1 <br/> <br/>Using the right tool for applying foundation powders. <br/> <br/>For a light finish, I recommend using a Kabuki, Buki or big rounded brush for applying your powder. (A Kabuki brush usually is made from animal hair, a Buki from synthetic fibers). Using a brush is perfect for your daytime look. <br/> <br/>For your night time look or for problem skin, I recommend using a velvet or plush puff for applying. The foundation powder will go on heavier and give more coverage. <br/> <br/>For both, use small circles and sweeping motions to apply an even and flawless finish! <br/> <br/>Love, <br/>Ahna <br/>http://ArtCreated.com <br/>home of: I Touch Roses</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 0 replies </div>

This product is AMAZING
<div>I just thought I'd let everyone know. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer is incredible. I'd never even heard of a primer until 2 weeks ago. I was at Sephora, asked one of the reps how to make sure the red cream pot I was about to buy would not crease. She showed me the primer. It was an impulse buy..... <br/>I performed at 3 shows last night and my eye make-up didn't budge--10+ hours of wear-and-tear! No wiping under my eyes during the night to get rid of dark creases from melting make-up. It was awesome. <br/>I do have a question: Does anyone know how to blend eyeshadow colors with the primer? I had a really difficult time blending them.</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>
Dyed with Henna
<div>I dyed my hair with henna! I love it! I have been having reactions to hair dye availble in stores. It was horrible. It caused me to have welts and blisters (no, I did not leave it on too long) and my hair is so fine that it was really messing it up. I tried the henna and my scalp and hair look and feel great! I just ordered the henna, mixed with lemon juice, smeared it in my hair and left it in a few hours, washed it out with plain water AND I LOVE IT!!!! For more info. <br/>http://www.hennapage.com/henna/ccj/ <br/>You can download entire books on henna or she will send you a fabulous CD! <div>Hello, all! <br/> <br/>I'm writing to find out what sort of eye make up remover you would recommend. <br/> <br/>With all the eye-liner, shadow, and mascara, the only thing that seems to kind of work is scrubbing, which cannot be good for the sensitive skin around the eyes. <br/> <br/>I've tried several different ones, and they all seem pretty weak to me-- I still have to resort to scrubbing. <br/> <br/>Thanks for your time!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 33 replies </div>

Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara
<div>I just bought it. The brush is round, like a little ball instead of the traditional cylindrical shape. This stuff is awesome! I thought the shape of the brush would be a pain, but it's great, you can get every little eyelash with it, even the tiny hairs at the corners that I always have trouble with. It's expensive, but definately worth it.</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 0 replies </div>

DHC products anyone?
<div>I am in the market for new facial care/cleansing products. My sister really likes and recommends the products from DHC <br/>( www.DHCcare.com ) they are on the pricier side -for me anyway- but I would spend the money if they really worked that great. Watery Eye -- Just one
<div>This makes me sooooo mad! Sometimes, especially on the day I really want my make up to look really, really nice, ONE eye will start to water. It makes mascara run and eye shadow get blotchy before I'm even done. I try not to smoke, thinking maybe that's what does it, but it still happens. We performed today so naturally I was the dancer with one f**ked up eye. I came home, mowed, took a shower and the dang thing is still watering. Does this happen to others?</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>
Neutrogena...grrrrrrr!
<div>Once again, they discontinued something else I loved. The tinted lip balm had great colors and they lasted such a long time. It was the perfect summer lip balm with a little extra color. Then, my dog decided to go in my purse to eat it...and alas they are being discontinued in drug stores. Same with a favorite lipstick...can't find that anymore either...sheesh! If you see them, buy them up because they are great! <br/> <br/>Anyone else have an issue with Neutrogena? I remember in the "discontinued products" thread there were several of you who complained of the company doing the same thing. Yeah, I know...maybe I shouldn't buy their stuff...but they have some great products. Controlling shine
<div>I did a search on this topic but didn't find anything relevant, so I thought I'd ask... <br/> <br/>I have oily skin, mostly on my forehead (like a lot of people, of course). A few questions about false eyelashes
<div>I?ve been performing for years, but never worn false eyelashes. I?ve been considering adding them to my stage makeup, especially after seeing some of the specialty versions out there, but have some questions. <br/> <br/> Is there a brand those of you who wear them regularly recommend? <br/> <br/>Since some are cheap ($2 or $3) and some are expensive ($12 or $15), approximately how many times can you wear them before they don?t work well anymore? <br/> <br/>Is there an adhesive you recommend over the others? <br/> <br/>Do you put them on before or after the rest of your eye makeup? <br/> <br/>Do you go ahead and put mascara on your real lashes when wearing false ones? <br/> <br/>Are there any technique recommendations for applying the lashes? <br/> <br/>Once you have them on and are done performing, how do you get them back off without hurting them so you can use them again? <br/> <br/>Any other recommendations for a false eyelash novice? <br/> <br/>Thank you!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>
Blending Cream Eyeshadows
<div>Lots of threads on actual cream eyeshadows... which ones... better than pressed or loose... etc etc search for gold and red creams' cause they are 'better' than pressed or loose yadda yadda... <br/> <br/>has there ever been a thread/tutorial on the actual process of blending cream eyeshadows? I'm not super familar with them I picked up a dark charcoal or black from the HIP line and have had minimal results so as much as I know people love them... I've got to be totally missing something! <br/> <br/>Can you only blend w/ other creams? <br/>Darker first or lighter? <br/>Start at the crease and work down vs start at the lashline and work up? <br/>Blend w/ a slightly damp brush vs dry vs actual wet <br/>Should you wait before blending vs blending right away? <br/> <br/>That's all I got... Thanks for the help in May.
<div>A while ago, I asked for help keeping my hair undercontrol - I was trying to grow it long, but since it was thick, wavy, frizzy, and curly all at once I couldn't keep it under control. <br/> <br/>I got loads of replies, and decided to try what I could out before replying - but then got kind of stressed and wasn't finding time for a while to follow any forums or worry about my hair. <br/> <br/>I did think about posting a thankyou message earlier, but quite a while had gone by by then, and I wasn't sure resurrecting a dead thread was a good idea. However, I remembered it again this morning, and decided it was really rude of me not even to say thank you. So thanks! <br/> <br/>Amy. <br/> <br/>(In the end, alas, I had to give up and have my hair cut short.)</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 0 replies </div>
Sebastian International discontinued most of their hair products
<div>To the category of "Grrr" I nominate Sebastian International for discontinuing all of their styling products EXCEPT a gel, a mousse and their fixative spray line. I only found out 2 days ago from my stylist (the salon doesn't carry Sebastian for sale) so when I ran over to Ulta 3 to stock up on Threads, my wonder product for over 8 years, the cupboard was bare, zip, nada, nothing, because Ulta's clearance sale had been on for 2 months! What?? The upshot here is an online search found that CVS Pharmacy carries Sebastian and I got 3 of the 4 tubes of Threads they had in stock at a local store. They still had the full Sebastian line also including Grease and Moulding Mud, it was like finding the Holy Grail! Online something called Beauty Mart also carries whatever limited supply is left out there. <br/> <br/>I am going to write the company and tell them if I wanted to use just crappy gel or mousse (with no offense meant towards those who use those products) I would have already been buying &amp;lt;insert your cheap drugstore brand name here>. I want my Threads, it's the only product that keeps my short, layered style looking good 110% percent of the time! <br/> <br/>Before I turn this in to a full-blown rant, my real purpose is to alert other Sebastian users who may not have heard about this so they can stock up or start shopping for other brands. <br/> <br/>Climbing down from the soapbox and putting down my Mister Microphone I remain, <br/> <br/>Caerann, Worshipper of Threads Flexible Microfiber Cream <br/></div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 6 replies </div>

Eyelash Adhesive Warning
<div>I apologize if this has been posted before as I have just joined. <br/> <br/>Fake eyelashes can be essential part of stage makeup for many performers. I perform fairly regularly and have been wearing them for years. It wasn't until recently that I found out that one of the main ingredients in most eyelash adhesives is Formaldehyde. I couldn't believe it when I found out, formaldehyde is not something anyone should be putting on their eyes. There are some eyelash adhesives that do not use formaldehyde but they aren't typically sold in stores like CVS or Walgreens. shu uemura has an eyelash glue that doesn't contain it. It is sold at stores like Sephora and Nordstroms or can be bought online. <br/> <br/>I wanted to share this information since I don't think many performers realize that this ingredient is used in most eyelash glues. I have been using them for years and never knew. <br/></div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 6 replies </div>
Weekly Featured Photo (3)
<div>Due to the second thread reaching over 50 posts, I have started a new one for the weekly photo. To recap: each Monday morning I go through the photo archives in reverse order and select an inspiring photo for our cover girl spot for the week. Right now (February, 2008) I am in April of 2007 in the archives. <br/> <br/>This week's featured photo is of Politti's hair: <br/>http://dancemakeup.tribe.net/photos/d2d62b52-d8b6-407d-bbcc-9c677e6f62ab</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 52 replies </div>

Bleach and Curly/Wavey Hair
<div>So...odd question. <br/> <br/>What would bleach do to curly/wavey hair? <br/>The last time I bleached my hair was about 7 years ago...and my hair was much MUCH shorter, and didnt have the natural waves and curls then. (They seem to appear when my hair grows out.) <br/> <br/>If I used said bleach to add streaks in my hair (Which I later plan to color blue and aqua) would it damage the curls and waves? I dont want to loose them, and I hate the idea of sections of my hair being strait while the rest is bouncey and wavey. <br/> <br/>So I thought I'd throw the question out there, and see if anyone had any answers for me before I go through with this. <br/> <br/>And one more question...for all those experianced bleachers. <br/>What's a decent product to use for and after? I dont want my hair to end up like straw like last time...it took me over a year to nurse my hair back to health last time.</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 13 replies </div>

Henna for Hair in the UK
<div>I've used the Body Shop's Raging Red henna to colour my hair, but I hear that they have stopped selling this henna now as they've been sued because they could not guarantee the exact shade the henna would give you *needless to say I it this most bizarre that someone would sue for this, it being a natural product and therefore not controllable with all the different variables, AND the fact it's the Body Shop which is supposed to cater for natural ingredients* - go figure!!! <br/> <br/>However, this has left me in a bit of a situation as I'd like to continue henna-ing my hair as I love the colour (if not the smell or the process - cow pat head anyone??) and the fact that it's natural and also good for my long hair (which has taken a lot of crazy colour abuse over the years). I need to find some decent henna which will give me the same glorious red colour without sending me traffic-stopping ginger or damping the colour down. I've heard of the Lush henna bar but was wondering what people's experiences were with it, or whether anyone has tried the body quality henna from the online sites? See, I'm kinda lost as to the different types and flummoxed as to which one would be good. So iffin y'all can help lil ole me, it'd be greatly appreciated :o)</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 8 replies </div>
Aveda Institutes/Salons/Spas - Experiences?

I had a private tour of the Institute in New York earlier this morning with their Admissions Rep. (I'm from the Philly area but I was in NYC on vacation.) <br/> <br/>I'm not 100% sure I'd be going to the Institute in NY, but I was wondering if anyone has ever attended Aveda for an Esthiology, Massage Therapy, or especially Cosmetology course? Anyone ever just been to a salon or spa for a cut or a facial? Bought any Aveda products? <br/> <br/>I'm just looking for any kind of review of them at all. I've yet to hear a single negative anything about them, and that's only slightly concerning. <div>Hey there...hope this isn't considered spam. <br/> <br/>And so it came to pass, that the people cried out for a place where tutorials could be contained....and it was made. And it was good. <br/> <br/>The people rejoiced and ventured on over to http://tribes.tribe.net/costumetutorialdatabase <br/> <br/>Where they feasted on breakfast cereals, orangataungs and other goodies. <br/> <br/>Come my children.... :) <br/> <br/>If you have a tutorial to post, post a topic and include it, or include a link to it. Pictures are great. I just put up a pretty picture for now. It's not just belly dance specific. jewelry opinions, crosspost, maybe OT
<div>So, when you ladies buy jewelry, and belt and jewelry components, do you care if it is old or new or where it is from; or is it good as long as it looks right? <br/> <br/>Would you buy new stuff in the old designs (reproductions)? <br/>Would tou pay a little more for better construction or better fit (such as the cuffs)? <br/>Or is it all about authentic jewelry from "over there" regardless of sharp pieces, missing pieces and often shoddy construction? <br/>Please don't take offense to any of these questions. I do have some training in metal work and jewelry..... my instructor would have chewed my a-- if I had turned in something with the kind of workmanship I've seen on some of this stuff..... so I'm very curious!!! </div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 11 replies </div>

Swim caps for long hair. Where are they?!
<div>I've looked everywhere. I'm desperate enough to try to Speedo that claims its for long hair, even though their regular cap doesn't even fit with my hair down and the reviews I've read says it can't handle waist-length. Please help!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 7 replies </div>

<div>I've seen some awesome flowers on some of you guys - and I keep wondering WHERE you find them? A Headbanger's Hair
<div>I love the 'tribal' hair with all the ornaments and cowrie falls. I wish I could dress my head up like that, but I dance to heavy metal, and I do bang my head around a bit so I usually just let it stand alone without any ornaments. I've tried adding a Fall here and there, but I just end up flinging it across the room. hehehe <br/>Is there something lite weight that I can add to my hair, that's easy to keep in? <br/> <br/>And I'd like to give major kudos to the creator of this tribe! It's great!</div> <div> posted in <a href="http://dancemakeup.tribe.net">Makeup and Hair for Dancers</a> - 11 replies </div>

Laser is attracted to dark pigment and therefore works best with dark coarse hair. Laser removal is the newest weapon in the removal arsenal. Laser Removal works by selectively concentrating light energy in the follicle, leaving the surrounding skin unchanged. color and skin type are the key factors that influence the success of laser removal. It's most successful on people with dark (brown or black) and light skin. However, it can also be used on people with darker skin types. Laser removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, although some of the efficacy is dependent upon the skill and experience of the laser operator, and the choice and availability of different laser technology at the clinic which is performing the procedure.

Laser removal can be performed on any area of the face or body and is faster and easier than other methods of removal. Laser removal is effective only on short, apparentable hair.

Two to three days before the procedure, you shave the area to be treated, and allow it to grow to a stubble. Avoid waxing or plucking the and electrolysis three weeks before treatment. Laser removal is not for everyone. The absolute requirement is that one's must be darker than the surrounding skin. Several wavelengths of laser energy have been used for removal, from visible light to near-infrared radiation. removal lasers are effective treatment for pseudofolliculitis barbae. Treatment cost varies with the size of the area treated.

Laser removal, generally average about $500 per treatment session. Laser removal, like any procedure, is not without danger, but undergoing treatment with a reputable clinic will greatly decrease your chances of burning or skin discoloration. Use of large quantities of high potency topical anesthetics to large surface areas of the skin, particularly when applied under occlusion, such as under plastic wrap, may result in lidocaine toxicity and resulting arrhythmias, and is contraindicated. Other risks include the chance of burning the skin or discoloring dark skin with the laser, hypopigmentation (white spots), and flare of acne. After the laser removal, no medications or bandages are necessary. After the laser removal avoid exposure to the sun for several weeks after treatment.

Post-Surgical Hair Loss
<p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt" align="left">Post-surgical hair loss, although rare, can arise from two etiologies: accelerated hair loss and post-surgical effluvium. There is a theoretical risk of post –surgical shock loss. It is logical that attendant with surgery there may be an increase incidence of hair loss after surgery. After all, there is an increase in blood flow to the surgical site post procedure. That is why the recipient area is red or erythematous after surgery. This bathes the area with DHT along with the necessary oxygen and nutrients required for healing and life of the tissue. This however, technically is not post-surgical shock loss, but accelerated hair loss. The risk of this occurring is dependent on the genetic predisposition of the hair in the recipient area and the extend of miniaturization of these hairs.</p> <p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt" align="left">What then is post-surgical shock loss or effluvium? This type of post-surgery hair loss can result after the procedure and arises from trauma to the miniaturized hair. It usually manifests about 3 months post procedure. This trauma to the weaken hair in the recipient area occurs when the angling of the sites is off.&nbsp; It is imperative that the angle and direction of hair growth be fallowed accurately. </p> <p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt" align="left">Significant post-surgical hair loss in the post-surgical period is at best a rare event; in fact, I have not seen it for the last 4-5 years. The reasons are related to advances in surgical techniques and pharmacologic therapies. First and foremost is the creation of precise angles of the recipient sites, while fallowing the exact direction of hair growth. Secondly, the use of very small needles and cut to size blades, that minimize the size of the sites created, hence the extent of tissue and possible follicular injury if there is native hair remaining. Lastly, the use of finesteride diminishes the DHT by 70% hence protecting the native and transplanted hair from any post-surgical increase in circulating DHT. The use of minoxidil 5% acts synergistically to further protect the native miniaturized hair and possibly stimulate the growth of the transplanted hair. Furthermore, the growth of the transplanted hair with its increased caliber is of greater contribution to the hair mass and volume than the native thinner caliber miniaturized hairs. I do recall one patient about 6 years ago that had some shock loss post-surgically. He was managed with finesteride, minoxidil 5%, reassurance and time. He of course not only recovered but also had an outstanding hair restoration outcome. The patient got his smile back in about four months post-procedure as his hair transplant commenced to grow in.</p> <p style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt" align="left">&nbsp;</p> <br><br>21-Jul-08 11:00 AM
Hair Restoration Post-Surgical Recovery
<div align="left">The state of the art follicular unit transplantation is the ultra-refined follicular unit transplantation, using follicular units (fu s)that have been trimmed of the excess tissue under the binocular microscope. These follicular units have all the essential anatomic parts that ensure its rapid growth, while avoiding any excess tissue. These ultra-refined fu s allow the creation of the smallest sites. These minimal sites are important for two reasons: <br> <br> 1. They allow the creation of very closely placed sites, hence greater density<br> <br> 2. The small sites facilitate the rapid healing, so as to minimize the post-surgical recovery and hasten rapid resolution of any trace of the procedure.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div align="left"><img height="265" alt="" src="/attachments/wysiwyg/119/PostSurgery1.jpg" width="395" border="0" /><br> <br> .9 mm sites in the hairline allow the creation of density with one procedure. Note these are coronal sites that fix the exit angle of the hair to create precise angling.<br> <br> <img style="width: 398px; height: 225px" height="225" alt="" src="/attachments/wysiwyg/119/PostSurgery2.jpg" width="398" border="0" /><br> <br> Close up of the hairline only one day after the procedure. Note that the patient has a wet look, yet his hair already looks improved; there is less visible bald scalp.<br> <br> <img style="width: 402px; height: 254px" height="254" alt="" src="/attachments/wysiwyg/119/PostSurgery3.jpg" width="402" border="0" /><br> <br> This Before photo was taken only a day prior to the procedure.<br> <br> So impressed was the patient, Ben Howard, that he told the Morning News anchor on Fox 26, that he looked improved immediately after the procedure. While he was correct, we do not wish to set such a high expectation. We are happy to settle for 3-4 months for results to be apparent. That is regarded as an early response in the industry.</div> <br><br>15-Apr-08 9:00 AM
