The word "goal" provokes different emotions in people. Somepeople refuse to set goals for fear of failure. Some peopledon’t have a vision; they live day to day never thinking thatthere may be more to this existence. Having goals gives usdirection; they are our life’s compass. Great athletes,entrepreneurs and high achievers use to accomplishtheir life’s mission. Having goals helps you focus yourattainment of knowledge and organize your resources. Goalsetting gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation.Short-term goals are stepping-stones to your long-term goals.


Discover what you want. What do you want out of yourrelationships, your career your life? One way to discover yourpurpose, to create a vision for your life, is to make a detailedlist of your hopes, dreams and aspirations. Start by answeringin detail the following questions:

What would you do, if you won a million dollars today?

What makes you the happiest, most fulfilled?

What do you think about when you daydream?

What do you talk about most of the time?

If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?

What would you most like to achieve in the following areas ofyour life: career/business, health, family life, spiritually,education, community?

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you goand why?

What

would you most like to be doing at this very minute? Wherewould you like to be?

What is most important to you; family, career, health,community, personal development, education, spiritualdevelopment, enlightenment? The answer to this question willhelp you prioritize the list in question six.

What, if any, bad habits would you like to quit?

What possessions would you most like to have (new car, house,etc.)?

In what type of adventures would you like to participate most(racing, backpacking, skydiving, etc.)?

Whom would you most like to meet during your lifetime?

Discovering the answers to these questions will help you developyour life plan and categorize your goals list. You will be ableto crystallize those things that are most important to you. Goalplanning is a skill that requires practice to be effective.
