HR MANAGERS USE COMPUTER FORENSICS TO INVESTIGATE EMPLOYEEALLEGATIONS
Los Angeles, CA --- With companies downsizing, corporationsunder strict scrutiny from the government and businesses findingit essential to be overly protective of proprietary information, times are not only challenging but keeping a close eye oncompany activities is essential. And corporations conductinginternal investigations are on the rise. Privately held computerevidence recovery firm, Computer Forensics International (CFI)President, Mark McLaughlin is hard at work helping companiesstrengthen their cases to protect their best interests utilizingcomputer forensics. “A services company was accused of wrongfultermination and breaching an executive employee contract. CFIexamined his laptop revealing the disenchanted employee emailedsensitive company information to his friends who werecompetitors. The action against the company was withdrawn andthe company initiated a lawsuit against the former executive,”explains McLaughlin.
This is just one of many cases McLaughlin has spearheadedutilizing computer forensics. One of the most common is findingout what employees are doing on valuable company
time includingsurfing the Internet for pornography, sending sexually harassingemails to other employees, destroying or stealing valuableinside company information, or sharing that information withcompetitors or taking clients from the company to start up anoutside independent business.
A prime example of this involves a case CFI has worked on with anationwide services company. They suspected a key executive wasresigning to work for a competitor and taking confidential filesto assist them. Using a pretext they obtained his company laptopin advance of his departure. CFI's analysis revealed hiddenemail communications with his future employer and the creationof a confidential Zip archive of files. The company thwarted thetransfer of data and received a stipulated judgment against thefuture employer and employee.
Mark McLaughlin has amassed nearly 25 years experience incomputer analysis, corporate security investigations, information systems management and law enforcement. He's afrequent lecturer and California State Bar qualified instructorfor attorneys on computer forensics.
