The SEMPO is the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization which was formed in 2003 in order to facilitate the functioning of the search engines and aids the growth of search engine marketing. Another important purpose of the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization is to ensure the supply of educational sources to its various members and definitely to the various consumers. The
organization is extremely significant as it constitutes the centralized authoritarian power for search engine marketing and its founder members include prominent dignitaries like Kevin Lee, Barbara Coll, Christine Churchill, Frederick Marckini and many others. While the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization functions as an organization aiding the functioning of the various search engines, its various members include prominent advertising organizations, web developers, in-house marketing professionals and most importantly search engine marketing firms and consultants.
Having a total strength of around 500 companies as its members, the main purpose of the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization is to ensure a steady growth of search engine marketing and its consequent expansion to ensure better prospects. It also provides for presenting a Job Board related to search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine management (SEM) for public viewing though postings can only be made by the member companies. The SEMPO also comprises various working groups engaged in education, metrics or standards, global working groups and research groups which are dedicated to larger causes and related issues. Moreover, it has only recently begun the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization institute which offers courses in search engine marketing.
