Supernatural: Second Season Dvd In the CW paranormal action drama series Supernatural, the Winchester brothers Sam and Dean work together to battle against the forces of darkness, having inherited the demon-hunting legacy of their father and the desire to avenge their mother's death at the hands of evil. Fans of the show can now catch the entire second season on DVD, along with a slew of extras and exclusives that TV buffs have come to expect on their special digital disc libraries. Season 2 picks up more steam compared to the first season, and the bonus features offered on the DVD set are simply the icing on the onscreen cake.
From a technical standpoint, the translation from the network broadcast to the disc medium has been done reasonably well. The bandwidth transfers have been described as optimal and high-quality, with solid dark areas and no artifacts whatsoever. The presentation of the episodes has been streamlined with animated menus that are relatively easy to navigate, along with the selection of extras. The only feature needed for it to have that nice extra touch is a "play all" link. One of
the unique bonuses featured on the DVD are voiceover commentaries from director Kim Manners and series stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki for the episode "In My Time of Dying."
However, Manners seems to do more of the talking than the two actors, giving the plot a perfunctory analysis using anecdotal information set against a somber mood. Other commentaries include a solo one by Eric Kripke for the episode "What Is and What Should Never Be," plus a joint between Kripke, Sera Gamble and Robert Singer for part one of "All Hell Breaks Loose." The additional extras are a road map with interactive features, a number of deleted scenes, Padalecki's screen test for the role of Sam Winchester, special episodes previously featured on the Internet, and several bloopers.
