Is Stress-free Corporate Ladder Climbing Possible?
Tuscon, AZ (ContentDesk) November 10, 2004 -- Are you suffering from fatigue and constant headaches? Popping Tums like candy? Do you spend more time in the bathroom than at your desk? Trouble sleeping? Is stress affecting your mental focus, career and personal life? If these symptoms sound familiar, you're not alone. An estimated 25% of employees cite job-related stress as the number one stressor in their lives, according statistics provided by Northwestern National Life, reported by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a division of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). NIOSH defines job-related stress as harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources or needs of the worker. Consequently, repeated exposure to job-related stressors can lead to injury and poor health, including stress-related illnesses, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. The Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine states that health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for worker that report high levels of stress, than those with stress-free jobs.

Early warning signs of job-related stress include: headaches, sleep disturbances, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, short temper, upset stomach, job dissatisfaction and low morale. If you're suffering from job-related stress and its symptoms, the problem could be the way you breathe! Yes, that's right—your breathing. Most people, an estimated 80%, are shallow breathers. Shallow breathing significantly affects the way a person deals with stressors, which dramatically increases stress levels. According to Tucson-based International Breath Institute, "most people, especially employees suffering from job-related stress, can avoid or minimize stress by learning to breath deeply.

Our Full Wave Breathing™ Program is a proactive, instead of reactive, approach to stress management and healthful living, in general," says Tom Goode N.D., one of the Institute's Managing Directors. Full Wave Breathing™ is an exercise that counters restricted breathing. This approach teaches how to breathe more deeply, taking breaths first from the abdomen, solar plexus then the chest. Doing so

triggers a relaxation response, allowing for greater oxygen retention. Simply put, more oxygen equals more energy, clearer mental focus and balance of emotions, which is most effective in combating job-related stress.

Full Wave Breathing™ has had great success in treating job-related stress with program participants. Take the case of Mike W., who noticed that he stopped breathing, while working at his computer. He had been having trouble focusing and concentrating at work for many weeks and toward the end of the day, he felt totally exhausted. After attending a program sponsored by the International Breath Institute, he learned how to retrain his breathing to provide energy and boost his health. Subsequently, his concentration increased, and he now goes home at the end of the day with energy to spare.

Additionally, his old nemesis—constipation—immediately disappeared. Mike says that he now actually looks forward to going to work and being there all day, allowing him to climb the corporate ladder free of stress. Caron Goode Ed.D, also Managing Director of IBI, explains why Full Wave Breathing™ is so effective, "Shallow breathers add to their physical and mental stress. Deeper breathing, on the other hand, is relaxing, exactly what's needed to boost energy, focus clearly and de-stress." Further, Andrew Weil, M.D. suggests, "By putting attention on your breath, you will change your state of consciousness, begin to relax, and detach from ordinary awareness." Retraining yourself to breathe deeply using the Full Wave Breathing Program™ is much like learning to drive a stick-shift automobile.

It takes a while to get used to but soon enough it's second nature. The International Breath Institute states that its program is a simple and easy-to-use, three-step approach for the Western mind.IBI was founded in 1991 to provide holistic instruction, products and services to proactive, health conscious individuals. The International Breath Institute teaches people the keys to wellness in body, mind and spirit through Full Wave Breathing and other its other programs. Methods are safe, natural, simple to use, self-empowering, and easy to perform. Visit InternationalBreathInstitute.com or call 520-886-0538..
