Matt Page (Voltage) - A Season Review! It seems like such a long time ago that I was planning my 2008 season and now here I am writing a conclusion to what has been my best year of racing to date. After a brilliant end to 2007, winning Dusk ‘til Dawn I had big goals for the following season of racing with my 2 main goals being to win a 24hr solo race, ideally Mountain Mayhem and to defend my Dusk ‘til Dawn title. At the start of 2008 I was living in Cardiff, working as a cycle courier. What could be better than being paid to ride a bike? I was doing no specific training, just trying to add a few things into my work routine to try and improve a few parts of my riding. What to take with you when you go mountain biking We've all seen the pictures in the magazines of riders out in the wilds armed with nothing more than a tiny seatpack. But in reality there's plenty you need to take in order to be self-sufficient so that you can help yourself or others should there be an incident. Andrew Joesph, a qualified mountain bike guide, spills the beans on what you should take with you when you go mountain biking. Pray Before You Vote By Kathy Simcox, Fri Dec 9th
I was hesitant to share these words out of a concern of turningthem into a religious sermon or political plight. But then Idecided to share them anyway because, thanks to President GeorgeW. Bush, I am still free to speak my mind the way I choose.
I consider myself to be a woman of very strong faith. Beingactively involved in a wonderful Lutheran church, I can notthink of a better way to spend my Sunday mornings. But despitemy religious convictions, I am human, after all, prone towander, make wrong choices, and be, well, human. But it is myfaith that carries me through those oh-too-often human momentsin my life. It is that wondrous Amazing Grace that finds me eachtime I am lost and that same Amazing Grace will eventually carryme home.
It is within this strong faith that I find my peace, whether I'msinging with my church choir, kayaking down a lazy river as themist rises from the water, hiking alone among the sweet-smellingpine trees of some forest, or doing something so simple asplaying with my cat Sophie. I look around me and marvel at God'smiraculous creations and I realize how fortunate I am to be anAmerican, free to enjoy everything this beautiful life has tooffer.
As my sense of peace grows, so does my spiritual maturity, again, despite my imperfections. As more years stretch outbehind me, the more I seem to understand how God works. I don'tprofess to know how Something, or Someone, so profound as Godthinks; no, that is a feat left for academia to ponder. Butevidence of how He works can be seen in His people. I don't meanto narrow this down to the Christian God; indeed, the God of allreligions has something special to share with the world and alldo so in His own unique way. But because I am a Christian, thereis, and will be, no other God before me. Which is why I must saythis:
I do not care what happened on that fateful election night inthe year 2000. I don't care what was counted, how many times itwas counted, what was not counted, or who did the counting. Bythe very convictions of my own faith and with every ounce of myheart I believe that God was looking out for America that night. He chose the right man at the right time. If anyone

else hadbeen chosen, it is true that we might not be at war right now.No one likes war, whether they have the tremendousresponsibility of declaring war or actually fighting in one. It's ugly business. But to not go to war would've been thegravest mistake in American history; indeed, in world history. Why? Because it is never a mistake to protect the freedomswithin God's creation - not just American freedoms, but those ofthe entire world. Regardless of what God a person worships, Iguarantee that that God wishes everyone in His creation couldpraise his name without fear, fear of torture, prison, deadlygases, or even death. Freedom from fear is what this war is allabout. And again, thanks to President Bush and our superiormilitary forces, one of the world's worst initiators of thisfear left his power buried in a little spider hole.
But this is only the beginning. We are waging a battle againstan evil more destructive, more soul-damaging andheart-wrenching, than we've ever experienced before. This is notan enemy that can be dealt with by using sensitivity andnegotiation. No, a "kum-by-yah" approach will not satiate thisenemy. A "kum-by-yah" approach will not keep our country safe.George W. Bush will. Giving these terrorists a big group hug isnot in our President's agenda. Keeping America safe from fear, however, is, and he does what it takes to make sure this is doneright. This is what a strong, confident, and faith-filled leaderdoes. This man loves the same creation as I do - the gentlyflowing rivers, the thick canopied forests, the spirit-filledchoirs singing hymns of praise. And as I journey down life'sroad, savoring each precious, free, moment that I am given, mysoul will rest in the joy of knowing that I walk under the samesky with a man who loves God, loves all of God's people, andwill remain strong in order to protect them.
