When Shea Stadium opened on April 17, 1964, no one could have predicted the extraordinary series of events that would unfold there over the next 44 years. Shea was blessed with two championship teams during its first decade: the 1969 Mets, led by Tom Seaver, and the 1969 Jets, led by Joe Namath. Glamour became part of Shea's legend, too, as the Beatles and Pope John Paul II made pilgrimages to Queens. The light shined brightly on Shea again in 1986 with the Mets' second World Series win and in 2000 during the storied Subway Series against the Yankees. This is a must-own picture book of memories for generations of New Yorkers who grew up fans of the Mets and Jets. There is also a segment on the 1939 Cubs at spring training at California's Catalina Island. B&W. 76 min.
