Foreword: The reason for my making this article is to instill in all Americans the need to see that there is a serious problem that is planning to be re-exposed Thanks to misbehaved celebrities, this would not have been a much-talked about matter. Comparing this problem last year to what had happened in 2005, some 6.25 percent more cases has been made regarding this ever-ballooning problem. A report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA shows that a person gets injured from drunk-driving related incidents every 2 minutes. Even worse, in every 31 minutes a person gets killed. A much worse number was recorded last year as a person dies in every 29 minutes on a similar situation.
Not only do people die, but it has also taken its toll on the livelihood of those people concerned. A total of US$51 billion worth of damages cost alcohol-related accidents including auto parts damages. In Kansas alone, which ranked 33rd on drunk-driving fatalities, some $3.4 million has been spent per fatality. To those lucky enough to remain alive, a humongous $97,000 was the estimated cost per injured person. It is twice larger than the median family income in the state which was at US$43,725.
Not surprisingly, states with large cities make up the most of these cases. Taking up a quarter of all alcohol-related fatalities would be
target="_blank">California , Texas and Florida. Most of these fatalities were between ages 20-29 years. Alcohol-related car crashes made up 21 % of all the deaths of children below 14 years of age involving vehicular accidents .
All in all, close to 1.4 million drivers were arrested in 2005. What alarms the most is that not even one percent of the real number of cases has been reported. In 2005, some 159 million instances of self reports on drunk-driving have recorded.
I don’t to make everything to sound really bad. 2005’s record was definitely smaller to that of 1982. There was a 12 percent drop in alcohol-related car crashes from 25 years ago to what had happened two years ago. However, 2006 was a great year for drunk-driving incidents as the numbers have gone up again.
