There have been too many tragic stories about pets in boarding kennels that pet owners in boarding their pets need to research carefully to ensure that the chosen kennel is safe. Beside having a friendly staff, the pet owner needs to be sure that the staff has great knowledge in animal care, not only because of potential emergency, but also to ensure that your pet will not be hurt physically and emotionally during his/her stay at the kennel.
I obviously do not recommend choosing a kennel from a phonebook. The best way to choose a kennel is to inquire from fellow pet owners who have used the kennel before. There are additional criteria a pet owner should use when deciding on a kennel. A pet owner should inquire about a kennel's accommodations and determine whether that the pet "room" is
large, safe, and clean to ensure that your pet is not traumatized by the experience. It's also a very good idea to read reviews by other fellow pet owners regarding the kennel. The same factors apply when choosing a pet sitting service provider. Additionally, a pet sitter needs to be reliable and trustworthy, since he or she is coming to your home. Therefore if you are hiring a pet sitting company, ask whether the company conducts background checks on its pet sitters. In sum, research and then use your commons sense in choosing a pet sitter or a boarding kennel. I live in St Augustine, Florida and heard and read too many tragic stories about boarding kennel and I decided to write this article to advise pet owners.
